M I N D

Stubborn, yet wavering

Mighty, yet light

Formless and shapeless

It travels alone

Defying space-

Silent and fast

It defeats time-

The absolute truth.

Make it stop- they cry

The fools who fool themselves.

But it travels only to seek wisdom.

Breaking the layers of thoughts

Past the veil of memories

It flies on..

To seek, the Self.

Let it fly- wherever,

Till it flies- forever.

  1. Breaking the layers of thoughts

    - I wish if we cud, ther will be no stress, pain or hurt and only pure joy.

Mind wavers like how we breathe fresh air isn't it. In that air, we fail or succeed but continue to live and move on.

    breaking the layers of thought.

i meant it in a diff sense:
i say, it journeys to seek the Self. Mind has no past, present or future. So it can relive the past whnevr it wants to n see wht went wrong or wht else should ve been done.
    tht s wht i meant.

    so true!

  15. @ nice post. very pleasant.
but can i ask u a question - what is the difference between mind and soul? infact the question should be strictly - what is the difference between body, mind and soul?

  17. @the new philosopher..

Mind: mind is wht brain does..(mind- software, brain- hardware..!) the accumulation of all the thoughts n emotions of a person reside in the individual mind of the person.. by wht they call- prayer/meditation.. the individual mind can be connected with the universal mind or higher mind or super-intelligence. whn the mind is engaged in this endeavour, it's called Buddhi or higher Manas.

Soul: Analogous to a drop of water vis-a-vis The Oceans, a spark of fire vis-a-vis The Fire, a grain of sand vis-a-vis The Earth, a breadth of air vis-a-vis The Air, space in the eye of the needle vis-a-vis The cosmos; the aspect of the collective, total, universal chaitanya/conciousness, for the time being, entrapped in a body, is called the individual soul.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @matangi - u write well. but let me ask more clearly .....chitanya/consciousness and mind, how different they are? we conveniently talk abt soul, but is it really that we are talking abt soul, or is it actually that we are talking abt mind at its highest level.

  20. @the new philopher..

as i ve already explained- mind is the function of the brain- the origin and reservoir of the thought process..
chaitanya/consiousness explains the aspects of the soul.
soul is sath(tht which exists or existance itself).. mind is the reflection of chith- ratiosination..

    ReplyDelete
  21. @the new philosopher..

soul and mind are different concepts. one is a noun and the other is a predicate.. so to say!

    ReplyDelete
  22. @matangi -the problem with our system is that we often talk with analogies...because we think it is so easy to understand....but no they are not. they always are convenient way of escapism. for example if noun is mind, predicate is soul, the sentence itself should be human existence, the verb is the living (or life), then does that mean we can exist without soul, as a subject can, only without any apparent meaning, as in the sentence "meera dances bautifully". the word dances beautifully gives a whole new meaning to meera and the sentence comes to life. but i am simply interested in meera. and so a word sentence as - "Meera!" exists with or without be gramaticaly right. does the mind exist the same way, without soul.
ofcourse these questions come because of using analogy, and i said this is not correct. ideally if i were arguing ulta to say soul is nothing, i would have called mind as consonants and soul as vowels, and then if u remove vowel from words, the word still coneys meaning as in "sh s btiful" so why should one analogy be chosen over other? so can u try answering the previous question without giving an analogy??? ( romba pesaren la? translation -did i bite more than i could chew?)

  23. mind,
    a myriad of millions,
    vulgar and vague;
    wandering and wonderful;
with and without a heart and soul,
we will have to live with it.

  26. @ mathangi

A very vivid description of what all of us have, but ignore so often, loved it.

@ The new philosopher and mathangi..

Regarding the mind and soul.. i feel the mind is something gifted to us in the now... where as a soul is timeless... is for us to ponder with in the time that is not now...

kinda weird.. but thats the closest i got..i think..!

  27. Great piece ... One of the best I have come across in recent times!

... Was somehow reminded of a quote by Einstein - "Imagination is more important than knowledge"

... and the imagination which mind is capable of is endless ...

  28. @the newphilosopher ..
Annalogy facilitates understanding (period)that is all; itis futile to stretch it beyond limits... the verb-noun business was a bit of literary extravaganza.. ofcourse a beautiful one at that .... in fact I was chuckling when I typed it! being captious You tend to miss the woods for the trees...( pl dont take offence )

  31. dear matangi,
ofcourse i have not taken offence....but i think u have missed my point. i am simply saying analogies should not be used in explaining things. so can u go back and explain my first question what is the difference between mind and soul

    ReplyDelete
  32. the new philosopher..

i ve said tht b4.. without analogies..

mind is the function of the brain- the origin and reservoir of the thought process..

soul is tht which exists or existance itself..

    ReplyDelete
  33. oops!!! i had not seen that earlier comment of urs( the one before the analogy)...somehow i had seen only that analogy and set forward to write......he he.....i think i wasted lot of ur time.....anyways...well argued.....keep writing
